I have a retail liquor licence in Empangeni and changed my postal address years ago, so I have not received my annual renewal notices nor my licence receipts from the local Liquor Authority in years.  I have tried to find a contact person to update my details – but no luck.  I thought they were based in Pietermaritzburg but it turns out that are now in Durban.  The Liquor Board has been replaced by the Liquor Authority.  And they now have a website.

From their website: The Kwa-Zulu Natal Liquor Authority is a relatively new public entity of the Department of Economic Development and Tourism. It was established on 01 August 2012, with a legislative mandate is to control and regulate the retail sale and micro manufacture of liquor in the province of KwaZulu-Natal.

I was given a Handbook with the following details:

KZN Liquor Authority

First Floor Marine Building
22 Dorothy Nyembe Street
Durban, 4001
www.kznlqa.co.za
Telephone: 031 302 0600
Email Address: siva.naidoo@kznlqa.co.za

The KZNLA has established 11 District Offices across the province as well as a call centre at the KZNLA Head Office in Durban. You find more details here.

Well that visit to the KZNLA was not bad at all – unlike my previous dealing with the authorities – I was met with a competent and friendly team.
